(2) Fish have fins that help them to swim. Most fish have slimy skins covered with scales which are very small and can hardly be seen.

Fish breath through gills. These look like a comb and lie on each side of the head. Fish take in water all the time. The water flows in through the mouth, over the gills, and out the sides of the head. When a fish takes in the water, it is not drinking but breathing, and the gills absorb oxygen from water.

(1) The rattlesnake has a reputation as the dangerous and deadly snake with a fierce hatred for humanity. Although the rattlesnake is indeed a venomous snake capable of killing a human, it’s nature has perhaps been somewhat exaggerated in myth and folklore.

The rattlesnake is not inherently aggressive and generally strikes only when it has been put on the defensive. (2) In its defensive posture the rattlesnake raises the front part of its body off the ground and assume as an S-shape form in preparation for a lunge forward. At the end of forward thrust, the rattlesnake pushes its fang into the victim, thereby injecting its venom.

(3) There are more than 30 species of rattlesnakes, varying in length from 20 inches to 6 feet and also varying in toxicity of venom. In the United States there are only a few deaths annually from rattlesnakes, with a mortality rate of less than two percent of those attacked.

(1) Whales are the largest animals on earth. Bigger than elephants they may grow 95 feet long and weigh 3 tons. A baby blue whale just born can be 23 feet long and weigh 3 tons.

Although whales live in the oceans and swim like fish, they are not fish. They are mammals, like cows and elephants. Unlike fish, they bear young alive not as eggs. (2) Their babies live on theirs mother’s milk. They breath though their lungs and hold their breath when they go under water. If they cannot come to the surface to breath fresh air, they will down. They are warm blooded. Fish, however, lay eggs, breath oxygen in the water and are cold-blooded.

(3) Whales live in all oceans. In the winter some of them go to the warm waters to bread and in the summer most of them go to cold waters to feed. (4) There are two kinds of whales, whales with teeth (toothed whales) and whales without teeth (baleen whales). The toothed whales eat fish and squid, which they can catch with their teeth, although they swallow their food without chewing it. the baleen whales eat plankton (small sea animals and plants). (5) When they find plankton, they open their mouths and swim into the plankton. When they close their mouths they squeeze out the water and swallow the plankton

Whales have a few enemies. Only human and the killer whales attack whales. And whales do not see to fight among themselves. (6) They usually live from 20 to 30 years.
